When it’s too plain, it’s too plain

It is a common mistake many people fall victims of. A website can be simple and minimal, but some websites are just too plain! If your website is too plain your visitors will be bored fast and chances are they will not come back. A website is a great marketing tool that many don’t realize. Creating a website means you’re jumping into the advertisement train and taking full advantage of the web. Unfortunately, many don’t understand this concept of marketing. In a metaphorical speaking sense, your website is a celebration of your business. You’ve decided to expand your business worldwide and take advantage of many more potential customers. Your website is your cake. There are two common mistakes many do in the website designing world and these are: (1) They have too much unnecessary content that the website overwhelms the visitors OR (2) The website is plain enough it makes visitors question, “if they don’t put effort in their own business image, why would they put effort in what they’re offering me?” You don’t want a white sheet of cake with nothing, but your business name on it right? You also don’t want a cake covered in sprinkles that you can barely see your business name! You want to look neat.

You can have a “plain” website with creativity by taking the following into consideration:

The color of your overall website should match your business/services/products. I.E. Light colors, wild colors, dark colors, etc.
Never overwhelm your visitors with unnecessary content just to fill up your site! Instead keep it simple and organized.
Never, EVER, put your email address on your site. You’ll start getting spam mail like crazy. Instead use a cute contact form.
Have a beautiful homepage. I.E. If you sell, put a few products on the homepage that rotate every day to different items. Keep it fresh.
Make sure everything in your website goes together. Please don’t make your background light blue and have BIG RED navigation links. It’s sad and unattractive.

Overall, keep it simple and elegant. Make sure it matches and promotes a good image of your business. Make sure it says, “Yes I put effort into my website because I care how I look!”

Texas Electric is a company in Texas that focuses on electrical services. They move from city to city all over the state, but their main offices are located in Laredo, Texas. The design for Texas Electric is something minimal and simple, yet intriguing. We went straight to simplistic for the website overall and to make sure their visitors are not overwhelmed by unnecessary content. It includes a custom “Pay Online” integration with Paypal and easy to navigate instant-flash menu that opens with ease when you click on them.

I switched to Firefox

I was going through my website’s statistics today and realized something. 47.35% of my visitors use Internet Explorer, 37.5% use Firefox, and the rest use other browsers. I understand if you know what Firefox is, but you still choose to go with the big blue e even after you’ve used Firefox before. However, that is not the case for many. People don’t know what Firefox is. As a contributor and Firefox fanatic, I have to say YOU should TRY Firefox!

Firefox is a web browser much like Internet Explorer. Now, you’re probably asking, “Well if it’s the same thing, then why try it? It’s also a web browser right?” Yes, you browse the website using it, but with style of course. The first thing that sets Firefox apart from Internet Explorer is it’s fast loading time. Firefox opens faster than Internet Explorer and goes through the websites at a faster rate!

My favorite thing about Firefox is the 1726104028+ add ons you can install to your browser and use.

I personally use the Twitter Bar add on where you tweet right from your address bar. I also use WebNotes which allows me to keep my articles from College in one place and I can highlight and write notes on them right from my browser. Another add on I use is the mail notification system. This system notifies you every time you get an email. Since I have multiple email accounts running for all of my websites, the best thing about this mailing system is that it can hold multiple accounts at once. Thus, it notifies me when I get an email on all of my accounts at once! I can even click it and it will open the email account right on my browser without needing to log in. WOT is also an add on that I love. It tells you what website has viruses, malwares, and which ones are clear of them. It is helpful when searching on Google, a little circle appears next to each link telling me if the site is safe to click or not. It has kept my computer free from viruses. Lastly, I can’t live without my Fox Reminder. I set my to-do list and reminders on it and it will literally remind me by popping on my browser when it’s time to do something. Fox Reminder has a lot of settings, so you don’t have to see the annoying pop up if you don’t want to. For me, however, it works like a charm.

These add ons are just a few that I personally use and love. Firefox has many add ons available for all types of people. If you’re a music person you can add a player right on your browser. If you’re a Facebook addict, you can add FB notifications and know when you get something all the time while you’re doing other stuff online.

I will say, Internet Explorer has come a long way because of Firefox. Firefox was the first browser to use tabs or “eyelashes.” Also, Firefox is the first browser to have add-ons. Internet Explorer is beginning to use this feature, but it still doesn’t come close to Fx.

It won’t hurt you to try it especially since it is FREE forever.

Once you install Firefox you’ll be able to personalize your browser! If you’re girly, you can add a girly background or add your own photo, or if you’re a dude then add dude stuff as the browser’s background! It’s easy; It’s Free.

I DARE YOU TO TRY IT. You’ll forget about IE, trust me.

Have you ever heard of WordPress? Do you have a website already or are you thinking of getting one? It astonishes me how many people still do not know much about the web world. Fortunately, these people are not alone. If you’re thinking of opening your own website I always recommend my clients WordPress. If you already have a website, but you want to renovate it, I still always recommend WordPress.

What exactly is WordPress? Here it is.

WordPress is a website maintaining and blogging platform. Yes, it sounds like something complicated, but it really isn’t! On the contrary, WP makes your website experience much, much, easier. It allows you to post text, images, music, or videos right on your website by a simple click-and-publish. You have your dashboard with a navigation list that let’s you click on what you want to do. For example: If you want to type and post an article like this one on your website all you do is login to WordPress, click “Post” on your personal navigation, a box will come up where you can type in your article and simply click “Publish!” Most importantly, WordPress is FREE. That’s right, 100% FREE. You don’t ever have to pay a cent.

WordPress is much more than just maintaining your site, it also allows you to integrate what they call “plugins.” So you want a contact form to let your visitors send an email to you from your site? All you do is go onto your WP dashboard click “plugins” search “contact form” and add it onto your WP. After that you choose where you want to have the contact form appear and that’s it! There are infinite plugins on WP that let’s you do pretty much anything you want for your website; and they are FREE. It ranges from calendars, countdowns, contact forms, custom mortgage calculator, shopping carts, paypal integration, hit counters, and I can go on and on. You don’t need to know all of that website and webpage lingo to install or use WP and its plugins.

Moreover, if you want to open your own shopping site WP can also do that and make it easy to post your items. There are many plugins to create a shopping site, ranging from WP-ecommerce and eshop. With WP you decide where to put your content by clicking right through your dashboard. Your dashboard is your private place, none of your visitors will be able to see your WP dashboard! All your visitors will see is your website.

A lot of people do not know what WordPress is, but they should take the time to understand it. WordPress comes in handy and it is great for anyone to use. That is why I only work on websites that have WordPress or I can install WordPress for you. Give WP a chance, now!
